Terry - I'm impressed by your thoughts in this blog. The disconnected/fear/autocratic thing is thinly disguised tyranny shrouding a cowardly weak soul. Leadership is fundamentally a relationship with followers. The immature think of themselves first; the mature think of others. A tyrant views people as beneath him; a community member views others as equals; a servant views all human life with the utmost esteem. Pretentiousness repels; authenticity attracts. The servant is merely the mature master of the ever-present inner-tyrant. Only the strong become servants because they have mastered the illogical instability of self-supremacy.

Cheers and Regards!

Beautiful reflection and insight.

I think fear-based management is a carry over from the industrial age and scarcity days. In today's knowledge worker world, the key is winning the hearts so the mind follows and influencing without authority (since people can vote with their feet.)

At the end of the day you do business with huma beings, your work with people. People skills (EQ) is more important sometimes than IQ.
On my daily activities - I feel frustated when people do not do what they are supposed to do, the real challenge is How can I get things done thru people without being aggressive? How can I come accross a person that really wants to support our customers? Which by the way - that is the reason of the existence of our company.
