If we're talking about the same book (and I think that we are), there's a quote in there that reads something like: "I will speak all the good that I know, of everyone."

I am so loving this! I'm not quite a baby boomer, but I remember most of those things and have my very own copy of How to Win Friends and Influence People.

I just hate it when people think they can hide behind a gravatar and fling mud and stones.

You are really getting back to the bare essentials of communicating and communicating effectively. I wish more people would keep these six points in the back of their mind before slamming someone on YouTube or any other form of media. Keep kickin' it old school, I like this post.

Great suggestions, Terry! #1, #3, and #4 are overlooked far too often ...

Pushing back a little on #5. Social media is often a valuable tool for highlighting issues being overlooked elsewhere, and this often involves critique. Similarly discussions and problem-solving need to be able to include disagreement. That said, I do agree that an positive tone is much more effective, and that it's important not to go too far in a negative direction.

Still, that's a nit. In general, as Ron says, these aren't old school or new school, their timeless.

Simple, honest and authentic, warm and friendly, good spelling and grammar with only the rare sighting of a misplaced apostrophe. And it makes such a big difference. So glad you're saying this stuff. It feeds directly into the train of thought I'm grappling with. Thank you for this. :)
