Keeping My Hands on the Wheel: 6 Goals For a Life Traveler

by Starbucker on April 10, 2007

Nneka at Balanced Life Center recently tagged me with the “gotta get” goals meme which was originated by Alex Shalman, where bloggers are listing 5-10 goals that represent the fulfillment of our wildest dreams.I’ve thought about this for a couple of weeks now, and images that came into my head were not tied as much to the future as they were to how I was living my life right now.

I look at life as a journey that is meant to be spent “in the present” as much as possible – since I drive a lot on my road trips for work and play, I think of the metaphor of keeping my hands firmly on a steering wheel, focusing on the road in front of me.

How do I best keep my hands on that wheel? There lies my “gotta gets” – 6 goals related to my ability to be the best “life traveler” that I can:

  1. To live in a constant “state of grace”, in the way that I’ve defined it.
  2. To always practice my “FROG” analogy – focusing, relaxing, opening and giving.
  3. Remember the simple advice my 100 year-old grandmother just gave me – “live, love, and learn“.
  4. Eliminate the negative in my actions and words to get the “ultimate vibe”, as described in “The Secret”.
  5. Continuing to dream (sometimes you have to stop at the side of the road!).
  6. Keep the eight-year old spirit of play, as I was reminded by Kevin Carroll and his red rubber ball.

If I can do all 6 of these things, I’m sure I’ll be traveling very, very well!

Thanks Nneka for the inspiration.

My “tag” is all my readers – what are your “gotta gets”?

These are great, especially remembering to play and dream. I do these and I’m 48. Sometimes people get mad at me for it, but, whatever.
