My friend Ben Yoskovitz over at Intstigator Blog has challenged us with his “Post-Thanksgiving goal writing project“ – what are my goals coming into the new year?
As always, I like to keep things as simple and easily recallable as possible, so in answer to this I came up with a slogan – “A Leap to the New Year”. I also needed a visual image, and I thought of a frog, jumping to the next rock.
I had the slogan and the image, but what are the actual goals? I arrived at four essentials, using FROG as an acronym:
- Focusing on what’s in front of me and avoiding the “Under Toad“
- Relaxing, breathing and enjoying those little precious moments in life
- Opening my mind to new experiences and connections
- Giving of myself more so I can attain more “grace“
In other words, I want to continue to grow and develop as a person, making tangible “leaps” forward towards a more happy and fulfilling life.
Hopefully, my new friend the FROG will help me make my leap to the new year- maybe it can help you too!

I love the “A Leap to the New Year” concept.
That reminds me of one of my favorite frog metaphors – Brian Tracy’s Eat That Frog! The idea is if the worst thing you have to do each day is to eat a frog, then that should be the first thing you do. After that, everything else seems easy
Tony — you could really take that saying much further. I’m glad Brian Tracy didn’t decide to pick a whole bunch of other things we could eat for our days to be easier… (wow that was a poorly worded comment!)
What I love about the way you approached writing goals has to do with a huge distinction you drew. You put the emphasis on a way to BE in the world first, instead of the usual “doing.”
Now that’s what I call organic goal creation. The actions will naturally follow from the way you are choosing to be. Even better – what a great reminder to me to follow your first goal and relax!
Tony, Ben and Debbie, thanks for your comments- sorry about the delay in responding, I had a few house problems lately (see my latest post).
Tony, I agree that eating a frog every morning would make everything else easy
And Debbie, I appreciate the kind words – I try to use the “relax factor” more and more every day.
All the best to all of you!
