My iPod has about 3,700 songs on it. When I listen (at work, home and on the road) I always have it on random. I believe my iPod has special powers, because it always knows what I want to hear at that particular time. Like this instance back in February that I blogged about:
February 10, 2006
It’s all about soul…..
There’s something eerie about my “shuffle” button on my i-pod; it seems like it comes up with a playlist that fits my mood just about every time I use it (which is just about every day). Like this morning – I’m on the treadmill, and I hear “All about Soul” by Billy Joel:
It’s all about soul
It’s all about knowing what someone is feeling
The woman’s got soul
The power of love and the power of healing
This life isn’t fair
It’s gonna get dark, it’s gonna get cold
You’ve got to be tough, but that ain’t enough
It’s all about soul
At that moment I was just thinking about my wife and how we’ve managed to keep our heads above water through a lot of “stuff” – nothing earth shattering, but concerning two out of the three things that can typically cause fissures – money and moving (remember we just bought a new house). We have to be tough, but that ain’t enough – yes, the lady has soul! It’s always good to be reminded of this so that glass stays half full.
Does your music player work like this? It’s almost like my life has its own “program director” who selects appropriate background music to prompt me to act or think in a certain way, like that day back in February when I really needed to remind myself about the “power of love and the power of healing“. I guess it’s not surprising for a guy who was compelled to compile a soundtrack for his life!

Terry,
That always happens to me! I’ll be in the store or sitting in Starbucks and the background music that plays seems to fit my mood or gives me some “message” or inspiration that I need. The Universe works in great ways, eh?
It sure does Maria – keep getting inspired so you can keep inspiring us! All the best.
Terry~
I LOVE that you’re so all about music and making connections too…I always get taps on the shoulder from the Universe thru great music.
One day I was feeling less than confident about a new direction in this career shift I’ve undergone the past year and a half. I turned on a new CD someone had given me from a group called Tremolo…and the song was called “You Were Born for This”!!
How cool is that! Like the Universe just said, “Hey kid…incase you have ANY doubts, You Were Born For This!”
I LOVE it!
Thanks for the musical musings and inspiration…
Kam:)
Hi Kammie – I really like the “tap on the shoulder” analogy you use. It is so cool when music literally speaks to you, like the validation you got from “You were born for this”. These things happen for a reason, and that WAS your sign. GO for it! All the best.
