Here are the last five tracks from my personal “soundtrack”, covering the last 7 years. As I’ve noted it’s been an enlightening process to come up with these place markers – and now I have these 20 songs to represent 47 years of memories of a “Half-Full” life. Thanks for indulging me, and hopefully it’s jogged a few musical memories of your own.
- “You Get What You Give” – New Radicals (1999) : I remember walking the streets of London on a warm spring day and someone’s boom box blasted this song – it’s a true “reach for the volume” tune that never fails to get my adrenaline going. It also has a life lesson right in the title, pushed hard by the urgency of the melody. An all time favorite.
- “Baby, Now That I’ve Found You” – Alison Krauss (2001) : This was a song that I had on a Mp3 compilation disc in my car that year, and I found myself playing it again and again at the expense of the other songs on the disc. I just think that Alison’s voice is nothing short of ethereal, and this one in particular, combined with some great backing vocals and violin (or a fiddle in this context), really showcases her talent.
- “Come What May” (From “Moulin Rouge”) – Ewan McGregor & Nicole Kidman (2003): My wife and I came across this movie on cable one night, and we were transfixed and ultimately quite moved by the love story between the two main characters. For me, this dramatic and soaring song ended up not only as a poignant reminder of a great film, but also as a redeclaration of my love and commitment to my wife.
- “Josephine” – Terry Starbucker (2005): All my life I wanted to be a part of writing and recording an original song, and while I’ve ended up recording several things, this is my favorite (you can click the title and download it). When writing the lyric (a friend wrote the music) I wanted to tell a story, and this one is about a lonely French girl who works at a bakery. Here’s the chorus: Josephine/So many places you have never seen /Look around/ A paradise awaits you that can still be found /Come outside/ A sweet girl like you isnÂ?t meant to hide/Dear Josephine/ There is life beyond Rue Clemenceau. A big thanks to my friends Jacek and Doug for helping me make a dream come true.
- “The Bridge” – Elton John (2006): This song brings me to the present day, and my August 25 post says it all as to what it means to me. By the way, since then his new album “The Captain and the Kid” has come out, and it’s the best thing he’s done in a long time. If you have any Elton in your collection, you will like this one.
Here are the first three Parts to complete my “set”.

“Come What May” is one of my favorites and I agree that it is a fantastic movie.

Thanks Kirk, and thanks too for stopping by. As you can tell I’m a music lover too – and it’s very much enhanced my life. All the best!
