Where is Basil? (Or Why I Like Blogging So Much, Part 3)

by Starbucker on July 18, 2006

Here’s yet another example of the collaborative power of the internet – on one of Liz Strauss’ Open Mic Nights, we got into a good discussion about the old John Cleese series “Fawlty Towers”, and Ben Yoskovitz at I’ve Got News for You decided to have a contest that would award a DVD compilation of the series, and he posted the winner the next day (6/28). This evlolved into another idea by Ben, which would be to send the DVD “around the world” along with another “Open Mic” creation (Liz, look what you’ve done – again!), “Basil” the Donkey. Thus, the web site “Where is Basil” was born. Upon review of this creation, I had to say I was mightily impressed with Ben’s web design abilities! He has a great sense of humor, and since a have a fine appreciation for Monty Python and this type of tomfoolery, I gladly signed on to be the first receipient of the DVD set, which I will be getting tomorrow. Of course, as noted by the site, Basil has already arrived, and in a nice stretch limo to boot (why he didn’t just fly into Westchester I’ll never know). He’s a fine donkey, but he doesn’t quite “get” what I do at work – he keeps asking me “let’s do something completely different”- wonder where he got that from? :-)

Check this out (also check out Liz’s Open Nic Night tonight) and do sign up to be a future recipient of the DVD - as Ben says, “This project is all about creating a community and having that community participate in one of the greatest travel adventures ever! Plus, it’s just plain funny…and who doesn’t like a bit of humor?”

Amen to that Ben, and thanks!

Wow! I’m so bummed I missed last night’s open mic. (Yesterday, my dog ate a whole bag of chocolate covered almonds (organic, of course!), so I spent the whole day cleaning up much brown vomit. I could hardly move by the time open mic rolled around!) Anyway, this made me smile!

kmcukui — just in case you were wondering what the code I had to type in for my comment to appear was…

Oh boy, sorry about your dog Christine – I bet they weren’t fruit-sweetened organic chocolate covered almonds (that’s our favorite). I missed open-mic too -I’m in Boston at a conference. Me and Basil are having a great time!

htmwjowm – that’s my code (yes, even I have to do it).

PS: been downloading some of your music from I-tunes – great stuff!

psgexmwp – that’s my code now. (it’s an acronym for “please save gas elegantly x-ray more wordy prose.” And we all know how important THAT advice is!)

i went to boston college. i love boston and i miss it. (not so much on the missing bc though!)

have fun. boy, the open mic night must’ve been one big bore without us!

Boston is a great town, no question. Love the vibe here. I’m hoping to make a reappearance at open mic next week – hope your dog can allow you to do the same.

And about that code thing……:-)
