There was a very interesting post today on a great blog I read regularly by Fred Wilson (Musings of a VC in NYC – see my links section) comparing Pandora (see my post of January 4) to another “music discovery” service, last.fm. Fred prefers last.fm, for reasons noted on his post. As for me, I still use and like Pandora and in fact have purchased tracks on iTunes from it for my iPod several times already. I’ve found that it does a better job of matching on more “obscure” (a truly relative term in music, I know) artists – like Ryan Adams or Rufus Wainwright, for example. But as Fred states, there is something to be said about “people” recommending music versus a “computer”. Because after all, isn’t that the only way we did it back in the good ‘ol days before the internet? Nevertheless, I’m going to give last.fm a whirl – keep ya posted.
