One of my biggest passions in life has been for the Green Bay Packers, which is pretty nonsensical. Why is a professional sports team so important to me? I don’t have any stake in it at all. How does my half full philosophy jive with this (especially when they just went 4-12 this year)? The answers go back to Cudahy, Wisconsin – the town I was born and raised. Cheering for the Pack was basically a way of life, for every man, woman, and child. One of my earliest memories is the time when my dad took my to a Super Bowl party back in 1967 (yes, that was the first Super Bowl – the Chiefs versus the Packers). Another memory is watching the famous “Ice Bowl” with my grandfather (he was a huge Packer backer). So I got hooked at an early age, and have since gone through the bad (the 70’s and 80’s), the average (the early 90’s), and the return to glory (the last 13 years or so, until this year). When they play, I’m a child again, back home. When I see all the fans in their green and gold, cheering their lungs out, I think of home. I think of the Midwest values and the family and friends still there that got me where I am today. And that will never change –even if they go 4-12 again next year!
